The Whale Company is becoming a charity
to promote connection with nature
to inspire the next generation
to find innovative solutions to the problem of plastic
and lead us to a more sustainable future
INSPIRE, EDUCATE, INNOVATE
The Whale Company is registering as a charity – our mission is to inspire the next generation to become innovative designers for a more sustainable World. By connecting to nature, through sports, the arts and craft we encourage fundamental change in attitude and behaviour which leads to a healthier, happier population and planet.
Message in a Bottle Source to Sea on the Thames
Carlos and Carolyn are paddling the Thames this June. Get involved – paddle with them and share your message.
Education is the key to bring about change in the world; we run environmental workshops to inspire children to become innovative designers of the future.
We run Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) expeditions on our homemade SUPs made of recycled plastic bottles to raise awareness of the global issue of plastic pollution in our waterways.
Alternatives to plastic
We can all do our part by trying to cut down on the amount of single use plastic we use. Our Whalebags are the must-have alternative to plastic bags. See our full range of products.
Over the last ten years we have produced more plastic than in the whole of the last century! The global problem of plastic is escalating out of control – a rubbish-truck load is dumped into the ocean every minute and by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. Although plastic can be recycled, only 24% of the five million tonnes of plastic used in the UK every year is recycled or re-used; we urgently need to rethink how we are using plastic.
Stand Up Paddleboarding
SUP is the fastest growing water sport, accessible to all ages and abilities. It is a beautiful sport that improves fitness, balance and core strength at the same time as connecting you directly with the water and surrounding nature. There is no coincidence that it is fast becoming associated with protecting the environment; sadly when you paddle it won’t be long before you see plastic and other pollution floating in the water. The impact is powerful and will initiate change because we protect what we love.
Connect to Nature
On World Oceans Day 2017 Carlos and Carolyn of The Whale Company became the first people in the world to paddle a marathon on a SUP made out of plastic bottles. They went on to complete 12 marathons in 12 countries in Europe, catching the eye of the media to raise awareness; the plastic bottle board is a great tool to initiate a conversation about plastic pollution. This year Carlos and Carolyn will paddle the whole length of the River Thames from the source to the sea, to deliver a message in a bottle to parliament.
